For those of you curious about the sources and collections that make up Media Cloud, we’ve released an updated version of our Source Manager tool.  Try it now at sources.mediacloud.org.  You’ll see continual improvements to that tool over the next few months, as we turn it into a way for you to suggest new sources and manage the collections driving your research.  

Better Source Selection in the Dashboard

We’ve updated how you pick sources in our Dashboard tool, making it easier to see the most common sets people use when they get started.  Now when you click the “add media” link, you can select some of most often-used collections of media sources, or search for a specific one by name.

We just rolled out some more small fixes to the Dashboard and Sources tools.  Highlights: The Dashboard story CSV download now includes click counts from our partners at bit.ly. No more “copy of copy of query 1”!  The Dashboard now tries to automatically name your queries based on differences between them. Once you edit a query name by hand, it stops. We just released a new version of the Sources tool. This update (version 1.6.0) makes it easier to jump to queries on the Dashboard.  You can click the big “Search Now” button to jump to a search of that media set or source right away.  Or you can click on any point in the “Sentences Over Time” chart to jump right to a Dashboard search for that week. Sources Tool Updated (v1.4.0)

We just released a new version of the Sources tool. This update (version 1.4.0) gives you a better sense of the type of coverage for each media source or set.  It shows you a geographic heat map indicating which countries are mentioned more often.  It also shows you a word cloud indicating what words are used most in the coverage.  Like the Dashboard, both of these are based on a sampling of all of the sentences from that media source…
